Dr. Amittai Ben Ami
Principal, Judaic Studies
Dr. Benami arrives at our school with a wealth of
experience in formal and informal Jewish education, both in the United
States and in Israel. Trained at Brandeis and Harvard University, he
has held positions as a school principal at day schools and elementary
schools in Israel, as well as teaching and advising positions in schools
and youth groups positions. A fluent Hebrew speaker, he has particular
interest in the teaching of spirituality, |

Mr. Ofier
Sigal joins us as the Middle School Coordinator,
from the Department of Education of the City of New York, having just
completed his Masters
in Educational Administration and Supervision. Mr. Sigal was a Middle
School science teacher and chair at the New York City Museum School, and
previously taught at the Reuben Gittleman Day School, a Solomon Schechter
school in Rockland county.

Mr. Sheldon
Naparstek also joins us from the New York City school system as our
Lower School Coordinator. Mr. Naparstek has been a teacher, assistant
principal, principal, and district Lead Principal/Director of Literacy.
With his depth of experience and leadership in the areas of balanced
literacy, mathematics, science and technology, Mr. Naparstek is excited to
bring his expertise and love of children to our lower school.

Meet our Director
of Development |

Elaine Suchow has
been appointed Director of Development at the Solomon Schechter School
of Queens. Elaine comes to us with over twenty years of expertise and
experience working with Families and Youth in diverse venues of the
Jewish Communal field. She most recently served as the Development
Executive for the Families Division at UJA-Federation of New York
managing a portfolio engaging and cultivating donors and prospects with
families in the New York Metro community thru innovative, high end
programming including Carnival at Pier Sixty and the Spring Gala
Luncheon at the Mandarin Hotel. Prior to UJA-Federation, Elaine served
in the capacity of Senior Management Staff as Program Director for
Jewish Programming at the Central Queens YM&YWHA where she received
Association of Jewish Professional recognition awards for her excellence
in Jewish Education, Family Programming, Camping, and Community
Outreach. Elaine has worked in Jewish Nursery Education and served as
Youth and Family Educator for United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism
at Temple Beth Sholom of Roslyn.
Elaine comes to us
with a rich background in the cultural arts as well. She received her
Masters in Performance from the New England Conservatory of Music and
has incorporated many facets of her musical expertise into her
programming endeavors. In addition, she has Post Masters Certification
as a NY State licensed teacher having studied at Bank Street College and
continuing Jewish education in the Melton Program.
On a personal
note, Elaine along with her husband Paul are proud parents of two
Schechter alumni students and have one more to go! Elaine’s goal is to
partner with staff, families, synagogues and the greater community along
with development of a strong fundraising team to promote awareness and
deepened commitment to the mission of our founding Solomon Schecter
School insuring its future continuity as the only Conservative Jewish
Day School in Queens.
