SOLOMON SCHECHTER SCHOOL OF QUEENS

In Memory of Ari Kraft z”l
By Marcia Friedman

It has been the tradition of the Student Council to donate the tzedakah money collected the previous year to a charity in Israel. Last year the Student Council decided to donate $1000 to Hadassah Neurim in memory of Ari Kraft (z.l.), who was a student in our school and tragically killed several years ago. Hadassah Neurim, located just north of Netanya, is a youth aliya village for “at risk” students aged 14-18. The boarding school and village offer these students a new chance for academic success, extra-curricular activities including a professional sports training program, and a warm, supportive, and nurturing environment.

Last Tuesday, November 11, 2008, Neurim held a ceremony to dedicate a new personal computer station in memory of Ari (z.l.). The accompanying plaque reads:
In memory of Ari Kraft (z.l.)
Donated by his School Friends
S.S.S.Q. School U.S.A.
November 2008
Ari’s mother, Yaffa Simantov, attended the ceremony and e-mailed me to tell me that it was very emotional and respectful, and that she is very pleased with our choice of donation recipient. She wishes to thank the entire S.S.S.Q. community for making this donation in Ari’s memory. May his memory be for a blessing.
